Microsoft Gets It Right With Windows Phone Series 7

I watched the live feed of World Mobile Congress today a little worried for what I might hear out of Microsoft.  While it was fully understood that today would be about the 7 OS I really was not sure how I would feel at the end.  I have been on 6.5 for the past six months and have had quite a bit of buyers remorse.  The thought was in my head that this might be the end of the road for Windows Mobile in my life.

I am still in a small amount of shock at just how right Microsoft got this.  It is not so much that I doubted their ability to pull it off, just that they have not shown the commitment to mobile in the past.  It would appear that 7 is truly becoming the lucky number at Microsoft.

A great video has been posted on Channel 9 showing a walkthrough of the software with Joe Belfiore who did most of the content discussion today.  As a ZuneHD owner (thanks again Magenic!) I am extremely excited about the potential experience of the new OS.  Combined with the rather rigid (compared to earlier Microsoft requirements) hardware specifications I imagine this will be a rather fantastic experience.

The next event to look to will be MIX where most of the developer discussion will take place.  This looks to be a great year for Microsoft in the mobile space.

SQL Server vNext Announcement

By way of the Dan Jones blog, the next version of SQL Server will be codenamed "Denali" and is still on rough track to be officially titled SQL Server 2011.  No details yet on features, just the codename at the moment.  Still good to know what to add for searches on the next version. :)
